Great story and storytelling about the African American service men in WWII. Finally someone has decided to show the true things they had to overcome and resistance along the way. Great movie, especially for teachers in the classroom.

Outstanding little film! Ossie Davis is loveable as Lorenzo DeFau, and as narrator, draws us right into the story of the crew of the USS Mason. It is the true story of how the first all-African American crew overcame prejudice and adversity while risking their lives for this country during World War II. The film tells the story very well, and is interspersed with actual black and white footage of the original USS Mason crew. The cinematography is exceptional, especially the scenes shot in Derry, Ireland. This is Tommy Hilfiger’s first motion picture effort from his THEntertainment production company. Note there are several cameos throughout the film, including Tommy and Ally Hilfiger, Nobel Peace winner John Hume, and the three main characters who are still living: Lorenzo DeFau, Gordon Buchanan, and James Graham. It is a tribute and a wonderful, uplifting family film. I think everyone should see it!

MOVIE: Enemy of The State is another one of Jerry Bruckheimer’s mid 90’s action extravaganzas. He reunites with Tony Scott to bring us this action flick about government coverups and how technology is used to basically track every aspect of your life. The movie is about a lawyer who is unwillingly thrown into a wild cat and mouse chase. A congressman is murdered near a reservoir where research is done on migratory geese. So, unknowingly, the whole thing is caught on tape and ends up in the hands of a nerdy and young Jason Lee. He realizes what he has in his possession and during a foot chase he bumps into his old friend played by Will Smith and secretly drops the tape in his bag. Now Will Smith’s character is thrown into a world of espionage without knowing why he is being hunted. He meets up with Brill, played by Gene Hackman, an ex NSA agent who ends up helping him. Hackman basically plays a reincarnation of his character in Coppola’s The Conversation. The movie is directed at a fast pace by Tony Scott, and it’s an overall entertaining action flick. I felt the movie tried to be smarter than it actually was and that the characters were very plain and boring.

ACTING: I didn’t like Hackman in this role, but Will Smith brought some life into the movie. For people who haven’t seen the movie in awhile you should check it out to recognize some young faces including Jack Black, Jake Busey, Jaimie Kennedy, Seth Green, and the of course the previously mentioned Jason Lee.

VIDEO: The great thing about the recent releases of Con Air, Crimson Tide, and Enemy Of The State are the new anamorphic transfers of the films. They are greatly appreciated and are so much better than the old ones. The quality of the transfer has not improved greatly in terms of picture quality, but there is a noticeable difference.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Enemy of the State! Click Here

AUDIO: As for sound we get a very dull Dolby 5.1 mix. All the dialogue is usually center heavy, and rarely does action actually envelope you from the surround speakers. The track is the same from the old release, so it’s not the best. There are some scenes with helicopters and some big explosions that utilize the surround speakers well, but overall it’s a very dull mix.

SPECIAL FEATURES: The “making of” featurette was actually more extensive than I was expecting. They talk more about the gadgets used in the film versus the actual movie, but overall I found it to be interesting. All the interviews were done back during the making of the movie and it was a pretty extensive behind the scenes for what the movie is. One thing I found extremely interesting was that they talked about a scene where Will Smith is chased by cars in an underground tunnel in his bathrobe. In reality, the cars didn’t fit into the tunnel so they had do take the cars apart and weld them back together in the tunnel. The entire scene was maybe a minute long! I just found it interesting that all that work was done for maybe a blip of action. Anyway, the next featurette is basically some on set footage. Overall the two featurettes do justice for what this movie is.

BOTTOM LINE: I got confused whether this was indeed an “extended” cut of the film or not. The cover you see on places like Amazon is not the cover that you actually get. The cover of the film is actually labeled “Special Edition”, but the menu does indeed say “Unrated Extended Edition”. So, I am thoroughly confused. I didn’t notice anything noticeably new, and the running times listed are identical between the old disc and the new one. Still, the upgrade is worth it.

Despite the fact that we both like Gene Hackman and Will Smith, my wife and I put off seeing this movie for along time, thinking that it was probably going to be just another run-of-the mill Jerry Bruckheimer action flick, all of which get to be a bit overblown and “samey” after awhile (IMO Crimson Tide, and the spoof, ConAir, are his best films)…but what would otherwise just have been another pretty good action/suspense film, took on an eerie resonance in the post 9/11 era–the legislation that the Jon Voigt character was willing to kill to get passed had more than a faint aroma of “The Patriot Act”– and I’m surprised that more reviewers haven’t mentioned that.

As far as the “lack of substance” that some reviewers mention, that is entirely subjective, and I do not agree with it. As far as reviewers who talk about this not being as good as 1974’s The Conversation, get a clue that elements of this movie are conscious homages to that earlier (and IMO, badly dated, and overrated) movie–one of the things that’s fun about Bruckheimer’s movies is that they are full of homages to earlier suspense/action flicks, esp. those that influenced him. Also, folks, get a clue to the fact that the Will Smith character’s “dumbness” and naivety, is part of the point of this movie: his ignorance of technology, and his over-reliance on other people for information, put him at the mercy of the “heavies” in this movie, and left him wide open to the crisis in which he found himself embroiled. As an aside, along the lines of the eerie resonance of this movie in the wake of 9/11, it gave my wife and I a bit of a chill down our spines when Gene Hackman’s character revealed by “hacking” into the NSA computer that the Jon Voigt character’s birthday was “9/11″–an eerie coincidence three years before 9/11/01.

Yes, this documentary is an unashamed pro salute to the spidery green hoppy-plant. It is also a very good one, and spotlights the most ludricrous arguments against decriminilization of the wacky weed.

This film explains how early 20th century lawmakers used every tool from racial and ethnic prejudice, intimidation, exaggeration, and censorship in order to portray marijuana as an extremely dangerous drug.

There is fascinating film footage covering New York’s Mayor LaGuardia’s unbiased six year study on the effects of marijuana, and the subsequent efforts of narcotic agent Anslinger’s efforts to silence the findings.

Art direction by underground art legend Paul Mavrides, and visual editing by David Biedny deserves mention because this flick is awesome to watch. The animation and graphics riddling the video throughout are a very hep work of art in itself.

In summary, this video is propaganda for fans of grass. If you want a truly balanced general view of drug laws in the United States, look for The History Channel’s recent documentary series. But whether you are pro or anti pot, and are focused enough to analyze both sides of the argument, this film is mandatory viewing for the documented facts and the newsreel footage alone, some of which I have not seen elsewhere.

This awesome documentary looks at the prohibition against cannabis/hemp/marijuana in the US. The movie is composed entirely of historical footage, and chronicles the beginning of the war against marijuana up to the present. It shows the true racist beginnings of the first laws against marijuana. There’s alot of footage of Harry Anslinger’s massive propaganda campaign, which is truly laughable now. The movie is quite funny, this is because all the government propaganda against pot has been so ridiculous and exaggerated over the years (”If you smoke it, you will go INSANE and KILL people!”). The movie shows how the public and media’s attitude changed about pot, but the government failed to respond to ever-growing legalization demands. You’re also presented the monetary figures on the war against marijuana over the years, it increases dramatically (till this very day).

Mann picked the best parts of old films and newsreels, and used nice collage techniques to link them together, which makes the movie very enjoyable to watch. Along with the incredible soundtrack, which is mostly old pot songs with some cool original tracks (like the opening credit music). There are even some really cool animations, and to top it off, Woody Harrelson does a nice job of narrating.

The DVD includes a few extras, but nothing to get very excited about. The creator of Grass, Ron Mann, has a short interview where he comes across as being very stoned. A deleted opening sequence is also included, which is interesting but not that great. I was excited about the High Times magazine gallery, thinking it was gonna be every single High Times cover ever printed! Unfortunately they only included about 25 covers, which is disappointing (they could have easily included every cover). NORML provided a state-by-state marijuana legal reference guide (you can choose which state to read about), this turned out to be the best extra feature. High-definition transfer for 16×9 televisions and dolby digital is always nice too. Overall I really love this DVD, mainly because the movie is so great. The DVD picture and sound quality is good, and the extras are decent. I HIGHLY recommend picking this one up.

This was a very warm and inspiring movie! It shows how one person with a lot of determination can make a difference. Before seeing the movie I had no idea of how the protection for the Spirit Bear came about or how this young boy was able to turn his fight for an animal he loved into a worldwide organization to help preserve our precious wild animals and their habitat. I was left feeling very uplifted with the knowledge that there are so many out there who care about preserving our planet and her wildlife. If you are an animal and earth lover, you will really enjoy this film. I thought the acting was a little weak and phony, but the beautiful scenery and the message it brings across makes up for it.

This is a story of a boy who would not give up.

I was so moved by this film that,as a teacher, I wanted to share it with my students, and encourage them to think about the environment and that we do indeed share this planet with other creatures.

That Simon could , as a boy, change the way a goverment thinks must be a powerful lesson to us all. I know it is an old cliche, but one person can really make a difference.

I encourage everyone to see this film. I hope it will inspire you too, as it did me.

Taking into consideration that Michael Jackson was under a gag order to not speak about the case in public and no cameras were allowed in the courtroom, this DVD documentary told me what the media did not. The facts of the case are told by those in the courtroom and the interview and information about Michael’s lead attorney, Tom Mesereau, were excellent.

I love Michael Jackson and I will spread the truth about those false allegations. R I P — There will never be another King of Pop!

I’m a true MJ fan and miss him each and every single day. RIP. Although I always knew he was innocent, I wanted to see that things were like around the time of the trial, hence purchasing this DVD. Do not buy it! Honestly, it’s just a waste of your time and money. Random ‘celebs’ give a shout out to MJ but doesn’t really seem like anyone was there by his side as he endured this false allegations. The video quality is also bad and the commentary is not presented in a serious tone. Honestly fans, save your money and watch Live in Bucharest instead. Thanks for the awesome memories Michael – we love you more.

This is a marvelous period piece that deals with an intriguing subject: the apparently intermittent madness of King George III. Nigel Hawthorne brilliantly plays the role of the King, creating a benevolent personage, a sort of aristocratic populist, who is, at heart, a family man. Yet, he understands, all too well, his role as King. His Queen, a loving and caring wife, is played to perfection by Helen Mirren. Rupert Everett wonderfully plays the part of their eldest son, the indolent Prince of Wales.

The King begins his strange journey along the highway of dementia by shouting obscenities and behaving in a shockingly unseemly fashion towards his Queen’s gorgeous lady-in-waiting, Lady Pembroke, played to ice maiden perfection by the always stunning Amanda Donohoe. He undergoes a total personality change. His doctor is mystified by these mental, as well as physical changes, which are broken up by moments of lucidity.

The Prince of Wales see this weakness in his father as an opportunity for him to make a bid for control of the crown, and he rallies a slew of supporters. The ensuing palace intrigues depict the gamesmanship in which the King’s supporters involve themselves in order for the King not to lose his crown in addition to his wits. The only question is whether the King will succeed in recovering his wits in a timely enough fashion in order for them to prevail.

This is a wonderful film with a first class supporting cast. The production values and cinematography are also first rate, and the film won an Oscar in 1994 for its art direction. The film also addresses an issue that did, in fact, arise during the reign of King George III. It is now believed that the King may have suffered from a hereditary illness of the nervous system known as Porphyria. In any case, this is a brilliant, award caliber film that lovers of historical dramas and period pieces will, no doubt, enjoy. Bravo!

The year–1788. The loss of that place that must not be mentioned by England has gradually sent King George III down the slope to insanity, so some ministers say. His emotional rantings, rushing out in the early morning in bedclothes with his attendants in tow, and even an imagined flight from a flood causes tumult within the Royal household. Some actions in his “catalog of regal nonconformities” are harmless, as he plays cricket with a group of peasant children, and visits a farmer, admiring the pigs.

This causes a political struggle between the Whigs and Tories. Prince George, the future George IV, wants the take advantage of his father’s deterioration to be named Regent, translation: “king in all but name and all the power, subject to Parliament… and certainly all the funds.” He also wants his secret marriage Maria Fitzherbert, a Catholic widow, to be recognized in the open. In this, he has enlisted Charles James Fox, former foreign secretary under Rockingham and now an opposition leader who supports America to the point of saying, “If a few ramshackle colonists can send him packing why can’t we?”, Doctor Warner, and later, the Lord Chancellor, Edward Thurlow, 1st Baron Thurlow. Supporting the king is William Pitt the Younger, prime minister (1783-1801), who advocates parliamentary procedure and insists that Parliament has the right to decide who should be regent and under what terms. Queen Charlotte and Lady Pembroke, the king’s mistress, are also on the king’s side, as is his new equerry, the eager and loyal Captain Greville. The political struggle is another type of madness, as it has torn at the fabric of the government that is the envy of all nations.

The king’s contempt for doctors is shown when he rants at Dr. Baker, who has given him senna, a mild purgative. “Mild? Forteen motions and you call it mild? I could have manured the whole palace.” His views on sleep are amusing, as he wakes his handlers at four AM. “Six hours is enough for a man. Seven for a woman, and eight for a fool.” That places me between a woman and a fool, then.

The role of the royal family as the symbol of England is also an issue. Prince George wants to do something, like handle some things in government. A line from his mother as they wave to their public is telling. “Smile, you lazy hound. It’s what you’re paid for. Smile and wave.” I wonder Prince Charles has heard that from his mum.

The classical music score includes Handel’s Water Music, adding to the splendour of the Georgian court. And this is based on Alan Bennett’s play, Bennett of course being a collaborator of Dudley Moore, Peter Cook, and Tim Brook-Taylor in the 1960’s.

However, the sobering lack of knowledge of porphyria, which is the modern diagnosis of what ailed the king, and is a hereditary metabolic disorder of which George suffered acutely and intermittently, is also a kind of madness of the ignorance of 18th century medicine. Yet, Dr. Willis does the best he can in avoiding the usual pronouncements and recommendations of the court physicians.

Nigel Hawthorne should’ve gotten a Best Actor award from some ceremony for playing the monarch, displaying the manic ups and downs, and sufferings of George III with great aplomb. Ian Holm gets the next honours as Dr. Willis, who stubbornly defies convention and sees the king nor as the king, but as a patient, and dares to look him in the eyes. Helen Mirren of Prime Suspect is Charlotte and Rupert Everett does a good turn as the Prince. However, Julian Wadham plays Pitt with great dignity and honour. And Geoffrey Palmer (As Time Goes By) is Warner. Also, the petitioner who attacks the king is played by Janine Duvititski (Jane in the Waiting For God series). Interesting look at one of the most misunderstood monarchs of England, what what?

I first saw this movie at the Taos Talking Pictures Film Festival in 1999. It had the whole audience laughing hysterically, me included.

The humor is based on comedy of errors. I don’t think I quite agree with the review that says this movie has a reserved sense of humor. The reason some may believe that is that this is not slapstick, punchline type of humor. Instead, your laughing as the situation gets worse and worse and worse through the character’s confusions and bad judgements.

The plot is interesting. Four buddies have a “dinner game” every week, in which they invite the worst (best?) idiot that can be found. The one who brings the most idiotic person, wins. It is interesting how serious each pursue their idiots. Some go so far as to “network” and send agents on the look out for an idiot. But the idiot that takes the cake and the co-starring role in this movie is quite the nice guy, if a bit on the bumbling fool side. He just has a weird passion: building matchstick models of famous buildings like the Eiffel Tower. He is Pierre’s idiot for the Wednesday dinner.

Unfortunately, Pierre severely hurts his back playing golf that day and must cancel his appearance at the idiot dinner. But when the idiot stops by, he becomes so concerned for Pierre and his hurt back that he sticks around and tries to “help” him out.

And that is where everything truly falls apart.

You may have to have some initial patience if you are looking for the imediate funnies. It doesn’t start to get crazy until about 30 minutes into the film.

This is one of those movies that you can see dozens of times and keep laughing. I have.

After reading postive reviews on [Amazon.com] about this movie, I decided to check it out for myself. This is a great movie! The set up is as follows…a group of guys get together once a week and they have to bring the biggest idiot they can find to a dinner party. Whoever brings the biggest idiot wins. Thing is, the people who they consider idiots are completely unaware of the contest. This is similiar to college fraternities having an ugly girl contest, where each member has to find the ugliest girl they can, and bring her to the party.

Anyway, Pierre Brochant, played by Thierry Lhermitte, finds what he believes is the all time supreme idiot in Francois Pignon, played by Jacques Villeret. Francois particular specialty is constructing elaborate replicas of famous landmarks out of toothpicks. Pierre, who is a publisher, invites Francois to the dinner under the guise of the possibility of doing a book with regards to his models. Francois meets Pierre at Pierre’s apartment, and the comedy ensues. It’s not slapsticky comedy, but intelligent fare, as we see a fairly detestable individual, Pierre, get what he deserves back in spades as things just keep going wrong. Francois appears to be a harmless, nebbish sort of fellow, but the more he tries to help his new ‘friend’ Pierre, the worse things just seem to get.

The pacing was excellent, and the humor right on the mark. Given the popularity of this movie in France, I wouldn’t be suprised to see Hollywood attempt to remake this movie, but as we’ve seen before, so often these remakes tend to lose the charm and originality as American producers and executives decide how best to ‘improve’ on a movie because they are so in tune with what American audiences like.

The idea of “Stranger Than Fiction” appealed to me the moment I first heard of it. Harold Crick, played by Will Ferrell, wakes up one day and hears a voice. An omniscient narrator is relating his life with precision and no one can hear that voice but himself. It turns out that the voice is Emma Thompson, playing a famed author who is actually writing a novel about a character named Harold Crick. And it’s the same Harold Crick. What is being put down in fiction is also concurrently happening in real life. It’s a tricky concept, one that I felt might be impossible to pull off effectively. Well, not only does “Stranger Than Fiction” pull it off–it succeeds grandly as a surprisingly thoughtful, amusing, and moving contemplation of life. For Harold must immediately confront his mortality when the narrator informs him/us that he will soon die!

Buy,Download, Or Stream Stranger Than Fiction! Click Here

The complicated narrative of the film is pulled off brilliantly. The overlapping structure necessary to maintain the momentum and cohesion of the film must be attributed to a clever, intricate screenplay. Literate, witty, and real–it’s a real treat. Lots of interesting effects help to pull the two worlds together making even the most mundane moments of Harold’s life visually compelling. The movie’s construction is fascinating and enjoyable.

Will Ferrell reins in his typical “overgrown kid” persona, and plays Harold as a real guy. It’s refreshing and while I’ve never considered him a leading man type–his tentative romance with Maggie Gyllenhaal (while a bit of a stretch) is played very credibly and sweetly. Dustin Hoffman, as a literature professor helping Harold discover what book he’s in, is having a great time. But it’s Emma Thompson that stole my heart. As the author, she is a complete neurotic mess–but as she begins to realize what is happening, something in her transforms. Her character provides much of the film’s insight and it’s most powerfully dramatic acting. It’s a deft balancing act, and as usual–she hit all the right marks.

Buy,Download, Or Stream Stranger Than Fiction! Click Here

After a near perfect movie, we have to bring both stories of Harold to an end. The movie turns into a poignant examination of sacrifice. If Thompson kills Harold in her novel, it will be recognized as a great piece of literature. If she lets him live, the novel will be just another routine bit of entertainment. This art versus commercialism angle is absolutely enthralling, and also surprising since it is raised so late in the film. There are moments of real power as everyone faces important life decisions–but these aren’t false “lessons,” they are genuine emotion that the film has subtly earned.

Ultimately, the ending is exactly what the film wants it to be. While I didn’t find it the most satisfying choice–it is perfect for the movie because by this point the film itself is mirroring the novel within the film. It’s a clever bit of trickery and very unusual. I admired “Stranger Than Fiction” very much and would give it 4 1/2 stars as an original and intelligent treat. KGHarris, 11/06.

A disclaimer: I’ve got a high tolerance for quirky and this film certainly qualifies as such. I loved it, but I love quirky films a lot more than the mainstream moviegoer.

I went to see this movie on a whim and so I didn’t quite know what I was getting into. But a few minutes into it I just KNEW that it was going to be one of my favorites. And, indeed, it is one of the best films I’ve seen in the theater in a while. I smiled throughout the whole of it.

The story is new. The characters are engaging. And the plot is so very random that it just works.

Now I’m one of those people who ALWAYS questions the logistics of say *time travel* and/or *magic doorways* but this film was so very charming that I wasn’t bothered by how incredibly non-sensical it seems: an author *creates* Will Ferrell’s character and can decide if he lives or dies with her *typewriter*?

Oy.

The fact of the matter is, it’s a fairy tale of sorts for a new and modern society. It’s filmed in such an aesthetically astute manner. The actors are at their very best and most endearing. And the writing is wholly engaging.

It’s NOT your typical Will Ferrell movie and if you go into it expecting fart jokes and prat falls, you’ll be disappointed. But if you go into it with an open mind and a receptive heart, I imagine you’ll be quite touched by the ideas it’s trying to negotiate in its sweet and clumsy way.

This awesome Euro cult film is about Danielle (Annik Borel) who was traumatised in her youth and now, as a young woman, believes herself to be the reincarnation of a long dead werewolf ancestor. She has a phobia of men and sex, and when her sister (Dagmar Lassander) returns home from study overseas with her new husband, she kills him thus begining a decent into madness and murder.

Despite the title, the only werewolf in the film appears in the opening scene in which Danielle is having a nightmare of her ancestor (also played by Annik Borel) dancing naked then transforming before being caught by a mob of pitch-fork brandishing and torch waving villages, who burn her at the state like a witch. So if you want a standard werewolf movie, then maybe you should check out a Naschy instead, but for anyone who likes good a Euro flick or giallo then I highly recomend this one.

The film has a great cinematic style with occasional spatterings of gore and generous helpings of nudity. Annik Borel is brilliant playing the werewolf woman as she manages to look genuinely detached and vunerable then instantly snapping to a furious insane rage. In the hands of a lesser leading lady the film would probually fail.

BUYER BEWARE however. As great as this film is, this ‘Shriek Show’ DVD version maybe uncut but is however incorrectly framed and missing picture information on all sides. There is a much better R2 Japanese DVD out there (which I own) but it is more expensive and requires region free equipment.

Overall a 5-star film with a poor 1-star DVD presentation.

Just a lot of nudity, yelling, killing, and near misses from rapists.

What we have here is a woman who is apparently the descendant of a woman who was a werewolf. She gets raped and I guess this lets her tap into her ancestery, which in turn lets her just go absolutely nuts for the rest of the movie.

No werewolf transformation, though. She is affected by the moon, but it doesn’t turn her into a furball. It just turns her into a murderer. So she goes on a rampage and kills a lot until she finds love. I won’t spoil things from there, but if you watch the movie you’re going to know where it’s going by then.

Entertaining, fun… Demetri Martin’s “Important Things” is probably one of the best and most complete Comedy Central DVD releases that I have watched!

The DVD release is a show hosted by comedian/musician Demetri Martin. In February 2009, “Important Things with Demetri Martin” scored Comedy Central’s most watched premiere for the network with 2.4 million total viewers since 2003 (”Chappelle’s Show” drew 2.5 million). The show is produced by Jon Stewart’s Busboy Productions and One Verse, Inc. and is probably one of the freshest comedy half-hour comedy show I have seen in a long while.

Demetri Martin, known for his deadpan humor starts off his show with jokes (stand-up comedy) but then integrates sketch comedy segments with other actors, animation and he’s also a talented musician who can play the guitar, keyboard, harmonica and who knows how many other instruments and also, you get actual sketches, word play and other things that you probably would never imagine seeing in a show. Sure, “Saturday Night Live” may also have similar type of things that we see on “Important Things with Demetri Martin” but its the execution that makes this series quite entertaining and fun.

The show is built around a certain topic and for the first season, there are a total of seven episodes (each episode are 21 minutes long) that are featured on this DVD. Included are (spoiler-less summaries):

* Timing – The topic of the episode is timing and stand-up comedy that revolve around timing. VIDEO & AUDIO:

“Important Things with Demetri Martin” is featured in full screen and audio is in Dolby Digital.

Video quality is a mix bag as some scenes are shot with a variety of video. But for the most part, the video quality is well-done and the audio is clear and understandable. For audio, my preference for my receiver setting was stereo on all channels and as a comedy DVD, it was good to see the audience responsive to the jokes.

There are no subtitles included on this DVD.

JUDGMENT CALL:

This is probably one of the most entertaining Comedy Central DVD’s that I have had the opportunity to review.

What I enjoy about Demetri Martin’s comedy is his deadpan humor. The man is a quick thinker and for those who have caught his comedy routines, his improvisation on stage is very cool. But what makes “Important Things with Demetri Martin” is that he and his writers really think outside of the box in trying to present a show that is different from what anyone has seen before. Granted, I’m sure coming up with topics can be challenging but for the most part, he is able to pull it off.

The whole execution of the show was fun to watch. The stand-up comedy, the drawings, the music and of course the sketch comedy segments are hilarious but also included are these short segments that take place before or after a commercial which are cool and also during the stand-up comedy, you will see text written on the audience. It’s just something that is quite different and for the most part, the presentation is quite fresh. Even the sketch comedy, these are topics that you won’t see on “Saturday Night Live” or other shows.

The DVD is full of bonus features and after watching the bonus features which some include outtakes, I was surprised to find commentary for many of the episodes and that was pretty awesome. One of the things that surprised me was listening to the commentary and hearing that some jokes are conceived on the show within minutes of the show starting or created during a break. But also to hear some of the behind-the-scene commentary on how the sketch comedy scenes were conceived was quite fun to listen to. Especially learning why Demetri Martin wears the same clothing, mainly because some segments work with the audience and some don’t and they can shuffle scenes around for different episodes if needed. And some of those scenes that didn’t go so well with the audience make it into the special features segment. Another interesting thing, maybe not so major but pretty cool to see, is that the menu is interactive (which Demetri Martin makes comments during a selection) which was pretty cool.

“Important Things with Demetri Martin” is definitely one of the best Comedy Central DVD’s that I have ever seen (and I have seen many). Seven solid episodes, a lot of special features and bonus items and pretty much, a complete DVD that doesn’t really skimp on anything.

Fans of Demetri Martin or those curious about this DVD, you will not be disappointed and frankly, you’ll be getting your money’s worth with this DVD release. “Important Things with Demetri Martin” is highly recommended!
