Wes Anderson is at his best when he explores a exiguous group of people — sometimes family, sometimes not — and explores what makes them tick.

And after the cluttered “The Life Aquatic of Steve Zissou,” Anderson returns to those roots with “The Darjeeling Runt.” Technically it’s an Indian road ride movie, and it’s tubby of his quirky charm… but at heart it’s unbiased about three unhapppy brothers with a lot of baggage. Both literally and psychologically.

The forlorn Peter (Adrien Brody) and his luggage barely invent it to an Indian yell in time to join his brothers, woman-chasing writer Jack (Jason Schwartzman) and bandaged control freak Francis (Owen Wilson) . They haven’t spoken for a year, and now they’re planning to awkwardly bond as they recede to their estranged mother’s convent.

But after disasters appealing a snake, painkillers and pepper spray, the three brothers get themselves (and their monogrammed suitcases) thrown off the vow. As they breeze benefit to civilization, the three men state out on a quest to sight the spiritual, deal with life, death, feathers, man-eating tigers, funerals and their absorb painful memories… and possibly collect their mom.

Nobody in their true mind would request Wes Anderson to trudge up an ordinary good-ol’-boys road amble movie. At least, not the diagram most directors would. Instead, Anderson crafts this as the baby brother to “The Royal Tenenbaums,” exploring a fractured, mildly dysfunctional family with an absent parent.

And the cinematic flavour of “Darjeeling Microscopic” is remarkable the same as in “Royal Tenenbaums” — bittersweetly amusing and arch, with a tinge of poetic unhappy underlying the station. It would be an endearing movie in any setting, but somehow putting it in the mellow glow of India’s dusty roads, shimmering fields and cluttered shrines makes it even better. The lustrous, visual richness gives it a sense of whimsy.

For the describe, Roman Coppola and Schwartzman helped Anderson out with the script, but there isn’t remarkable change. As always, lots of wry, amusingly contemplative dialogue (”I wonder if the three of us would’ve been friends in precise life. Not as brothers, but as people”), though there is some hilarious comedic scenes of sibling infighting. It even gets slapsticky.

Fortunately, Anderson never puts artificial twists into the sage, for any extra drama, comedy or thrills; the closest thing would be a brief detour into a child’s funeral. The fable simply flows by, because it’s all about the brothers — and focusing on anything but their self-imposed crawl would unbiased be extra baggage.

And the three men playing Jack, Francis and Peter are nothing short of intellectual. Brody is vaguely lost and forlorn, while Schwartzman is a quirky rake who is level-headed shrinking by his last girlfriend (played by Natalie Portman in the short intro, “Hotel Chevalier”) . But there’s something almost painfully wounded about Wilson’s reckless control freak, which has nothing to do with his bandages.

“The Darjeeling Puny” is a visually unbelievable, contemplative slight comedy, all about three men who have to deal with the past before they can proceed on. Assign it on the shelf next to “Royal Tenenbaums.”

Synopsis: An ornate and psychedelically colored impart known as the Darjeeling Cramped transports three estranged brothers; Francis (Owen Wilson), Peter (Adrien Brody) and Jack (Jason Schwartzman) to destinations unknown (actually Francis is attempting to arrange a rendezvous with their constantly disappearing Mother (Anjelica Huston) now living as a nun in Tibet) . It has only been a year since their Father’s tragic death and each brother carries their contain personal heartache over his passing and their Mother’s disturbing absence from the funeral.

As one comes to inquire when traveling with others, cessation proximity, annoying behaviors and used wounds eventually surface which must be dealt with as they arise. Add to the mix unforeseen events both aboard the screech and at intermittent stopovers along the plot and you have the makings of a transformational experience unlike anything the brothers could have anticipated.

Critique: The ‘07 film `The Darjeeling Limited’ begins painfully humdrum and incomprehensibly odd but if you have the fortitude to survive the first 40 minutes you will eventually fetch yourself on a delightfully oddball, unpredictable whisk across the Indian subcontinent on a spiritual lumber in search of physical, emotional and relational healing. Serving as a metaphor for life’s plug, one might say that we are all aboard the Darjeeling Minute headed in the same direction to parts unknown. In the final analysis one learns that it’s not where you’re headed but how distinguished baggage you roam along with you.

There’s a lot of food for conception hidden away in this film for those who are willing to keep in the pain and survey until the very ruin. Give it a try if you’re in the mood for something obtuse.

“(500) Days of Summer” is a wonderfully refreshing experience, a romantic comedy that doesn’t follow the rules of a romantic comedy. It’s inventive, intelligent, and engaging, a story of the dualities a young man lives with on a daily basis. On the one hand, there’s the duality between falling in love and believing that love doesn’t exist; Tom (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) grew up believing in fate bringing soul mates together whereas Summer (Zooey Deschanel) grew up not believing in much of anything, least of all lasting relationships. On the other hand, there’s the duality between what one would like to happen and what actually does happen; we often go through life with expectations, even though we know deep down that most will never be met. Tom is in a tug-of-war between his romantic fantasies and the reality that Summer doesn’t believe in true love.

Levitt’s performance is a revelation. He plays Tom with sincerity. Tom is approachable and good natured, highly confident yet not so above-it-all that he can’t be desperate and miserable at times. He writes greeting cards for a living but has always dreamed of becoming an architect, and he often finds inspiration from the Los Angeles skyscrapers that surround him. His story unfolds in much the same way a memory does, with fragments that pop up all out of sequence until the reality of those 500 days become clear. Some may be confused by this, but keep in mind that memory and chronological order never go hand in hand. This is especially true when reflecting on a relationship. Tom continuously thinks back trying to make sense of it all, only to end up considering the possibility that Summer was right all along.

Deschanel, who seemed so awkward in films like “Yes Man” and “The Happening,” here is perfectly cast. Summer is charming, fun, and sweet, but she’s also mysterious, distant, and casual about life. She dates Tom and even makes love to him, yet she will never see him as anything more than a friend. She’s with him not because she’s in love–she’s just having fun while living in the moment. It’s about all she can do given the fact that she can’t love anything, save for the length of her hair and the fact that she can cut it off without feeling anything. There are a few select moments, however, when she connects with Tom at a more personal level, inviting him into her artsy apartment and eventually opening up about past experiences. This makes Tom feel appreciated, as he believes, perhaps correctly, that she doesn’t go this far with too many people.

Buy,Download, Or Stream (500) Days of Summer! Click Here

By the end of the film, Tom feels like someone we’ve gotten to know. Summer, on the other hand, remains enigmatic, underscoring the uncertainty engrained in any kind of relationship. There are times when Tom thinks he has her figured out. There are other times when it seems as if they’ve never even met. Loving relationships are based on compromises, and while Tom would be willing to make a few, Summer most definitely would not. She does what she wants when she wants it. This is admirable, but when matters of the heart are involved, the line does need to be drawn somewhere.

Tom’s emotional roller coaster ride occasionally gets the visual treatment. In one scene, he becomes the star of a musical number featuring dancers and a cartoon bluebird. In another scene, he imagines himself as characters in black and white European art house films by Ingmar Bergman and Federico Fellini. The single most creative shot has him standing in the middle of the street while the buildings transform into an architectural sketch, much like the one he drew on Summer’s arm. Director Marc Webb treats these scenes not as showcases of special effects but as special moments of heightened reality, which is fitting given the battle waged between what Tom desires and what he actually gets. The most obvious interpretation of this theme is a split-screen image late in the film, one side marked “Expectations,” the other side marked “Reality.”

These extra touches make this movie enjoyable, but its Gordon and Deschanel that make it a joy to watch. They have chemistry. You believe in them as actual people and not merely as characters. They show just how talented they are as actors, although credit must also be given to Webb’s direction and the screenplay by Scott Neustadter and Michael H. Weber. They breathe life into “(500) Days of Summer,” a film we’re told right off the bat is not a love story. Nor should it be; we’ve seen love stories before, and while they more or less work as entertaining distractions, rarely do they provide insight or even traces of plausibility. This movie is more ambitious than that. It aims to tell a story without resorting to cheap gimmicks like cliché dialogue or contrived plotlines. The end result is a story that’s often funny, often thoughtful, and always compelling.

Tom Hansen (Joseph Gordon-Levitt) falls head over heels for Summer Finch (Zooey Deschauel) the new girl working at his office. The story of their relationship is told in non-chronological order, including a few highly original scenes such as Tom turning the streets of LA into a chorus line following his first night with Summer. You know from the start that Tom and Summer are bound to split up. But the movie comes together nicely in the end, showing that when one story ends another is bound to begin.

One thing I really like about this movie is that’s it’s the guy who is the hopeless romantic and the girl who remains emotionally distant. This contrast with the usual male-female stereotypes is refreshing and something I experienced myself when I was a young man. The movie is also quite nuanced and contains numerous references to classic literature, classic films and classic rock. In other words, it’s way smarter than the usual Hollywood romantic comedy. It’s also more funny and had me laughing out loud on several occassions. I do have to admit that the non-chronological sequencing of the 500 days left me dizzy at times and how much you like this movie will depend, to some extent, on how much you can identify with the main characters. But this is a well made movie and one worthy of seeing.

I saw this on comedy central several months ago and resigned to the fact that it wasn’t going to be released on DVD, but here it is. This truly is one of the funniest standup routines to ever be captured on DVD. If you haven’t seen or heard George Lopez before, give him a try. It’s not latino-exclusive humor. It really is universal, which is a credit to his stout talent.

I loved this!! I laughed until the tears rolled down my cheeks. I was able to characterize to so many things about my acquire childhood. I am not latino, but seeing this reinforces my opinion that families are beautiful worthy alike regardless of heritage.

In all of the press I have seen, in all of the interviews I have watched, everyone mentions how “slyly humorous”, how “darkly droll” the novel film “Married Life” is. The joke must have gone over my head.

Richard Langley (Pierce Brosnan) tells us the sage of his large friend, Harry (Chris Cooper) . Harry, a successful businessman in Unusual York, circa 1949, has a loving, even doting wife, Pat (Patricia Clarkson) . But he has fallen in adore with a sparkling young widow, Kay (Rachel McAdams, “Red Scrutinize”, “Wedding Crashers”, “The Notebook”) . Rather than attach his wife through the humiliation of a divorce, of leaving her, he decides to poison her. Then, a free man, he can proceed on and marry Kay. But Harry makes one mistake; he introduces Kay to his titanic friend, Richard, a lothario like no other, and he is also attracted to Kay.

Directed and co-written by Ira Sachs, “Married Life” is a very believable recognize at the method people lived in the tedious 40s. The attention to detail is astonishing; clothing, furniture, cars all appear authentic. In one scene, they visit a movie theater and look a lesser known Ava Gardner film. It’s a nice touch. So often in films dwelling in the past, they go to the theater to peep “The Wizard of Oz”, “Casablanca” or “Citizen Kane”. Determined, these are extremely memorable films, but they weren’t the only three films made pre 1960.

The four leads are all very friendly, all very believable. Pierce Brosnan’s Richard narrates the film, introducing us to the characters, to the sage and guides us throughout. He speaks in a softly modulated tone, giving the film the feeling of a epic or a fairy chronicle. His enlighten, complete with Irish accent, lulls us into the sage, slowly helping us acquire acclimated to this world. Richard is a cad, but he is a bachelor, so we can’t disapprove him too mighty when we learn he sleeps around. By the time we realize he is going to try to seduce Kay away from his excellent friend, Harry, his behavior has become well enough established that we would be disappointed if he didn’t try to sleep with the young woman.

Chris Cooper is grand as Harry; there are a lot of layers to his character and they are revealed in subtle ways, giving us a immense glimpse at his character. Why would Harry deem it is more elegant to destroy his wife than to divorce her? In his maintain curved device, this shows the depth of care he has for her. They have been together for so long, they know each other so well, and he can’t fathom the conception of divorcing her. But he also realizes he doesn’t esteem Pat anymore. His passion lies with Kay and he has had a life so devoid of passion for so long, he simply can’t let it happen any longer. He needs passion, he needs Kay.

Harry clearly recognizes he has dinky resources for making this happen. It has to be something that looks like an accident, or natural. He could never shoot her, or expend a knife, too messy and too many unpleasant consequences. So he decides to set aside poison in her medicine; Pat suffers from ulcers and heart burn so she always has a blue bottle around. As Harry sets about the task at hand, the account takes on decidedly Hitchcockian overtones. Noteworthy like “Suspicion” and “Illustrious”, we know more than some of the characters and this creates an additional level of suspense. Add the tongue in cheek element, and the film becomes more like Hitchcock’s “The Pain with Harry” or “Family Position”. At one point, Harry, thinking he has made a awful mistake, races home to prevent Pat from taking an additional dose of the poison. The film presents all of these elements well, blending them deftly and creating a nice homage to these films, and this era. Cooper is also able to report the various emotions Harry experiences, sometimes on the turn of a dime, making his character complex and believable.

Patricia Clarkson is perhaps the perfect type to play a housewife from the slack forties; she fair looks like she fits into this different era and might have walked out of a Norman Rockwell painting. She is also the perfect compliment to Cooper, matching his acting style to a tee. They are both very rude key, very natural, and seem to be a precise couple.

It is also enthralling to view Clarkson play this character as she has to toddle a beautiful line. One the one hand, we know she is being poisoned, know she is essentially a victim, but she maintains a sunny disposition and manages to build the character seem arresting and viable, and not the least bit pathetic. Basically, she makes a character that seems very simple, someone we have figured out, and calm manages to surprise us. The fact that she knows Harry doesn’t savor her anymore, she states as noteworthy, and stays in the relationship, provides an example of her dedication. Too awful she isn’t as aware of what her husband is up to.

Rachel McAdams has been off cover for a couple of years and her portrayal of Kay only serves to construct this absence all the more noticeable. Powerful like Clarkson, McAdams takes a character that we probably have `figured out’ from the first moment we view her, and makes us feel differently about the woman. Yes, she is an adulterer, but as we win to know her, we realize there is a lot more to her. Her character becomes flesh and blood to us and we learn she is a exact human being. This is Sach’s best contribution to the tale and the characters; details. We learn a lot about each person through observation, comments, actions.

It becomes a tiny more problematic when she starts to drop for Rich. She is already an adulterer and now she is cheating on the man who is cheating on his wife. But McAdams is able to pronounce this conflict well, giving us staunch insight into her character, making us relish this decision as well.

It positive seems like I liked “Married Life” and I did like many things about it. Perhaps if people weren’t so intent on talking about the `dark comedy’ aspect of it, I would be more appreciative. It is a very kindly drama, but the comedy, sad or otherwise, is almost non-existent. Even the moment when Harry rushes home to prevent Pat from taking a dose of the medicine is played more for suspense – I suspect Sachs intended this to be a amusing moment. So, “Married Life” isn’t comical, except for the occasional mildly silly moment. In a shadowy comedy, I quiz some outright laughs, more comic moments, and these don’t happen.

“Married Life” is a first-rate film, but it needs a divorce from the plugs it has been getting from the cast in novel interviews and press. Actually a divorce might unbiased be too humiliating. These fake rumors should probably be keep to rest.

The film zips along with its solid script, witty and fast dialogue and thoughtful and deliciously unpredictable moments. More than once, I was literally at the edge of my seat holding my breath. In 1949, it’s a simpler time with diners, luncheons, tea, radio, and dancing on the town or to the narrate prove as an dependable night out. There’s something overall romantic about this time. The narration, which I have grown tired of as a set diagram (I behold it as such a short sever to the main ideas too often), actually works here in adding to the overall nostalgia and quaintness. Many scenes are like Hopper paintings reach alive making Married Life a visual treat as well as a compelling film.

The cast is impressive from Pierce Brosnan (The Matador, Die Another Day) to Academy Award winner Chris Cooper (Adaptation, Breach) to indie real Patricia Clarkson (Lars and the Staunch Girl) . Rachel McAdams (Wedding Crashers, The Notebook) is heavenly and so capable in these period roles. She looks comfortable and there are layers of sweetness under that platinum hair. Clarkson possesses the just amount of mischief and devotion in her role as the dutiful, seemingly predictable wife. Brosnan is brooding and complex and yummy. I fair couldn’t occupy the Cooper vs. Brosnan though. Hands down I would hold a wolf in Brosnan’s clothing instead of a sheep like Cooper’s character. Cooper/McAdams give the impression of father/daughter more than older man/younger woman. But please don’t let that close you, somehow it all flows along. I yelp that in Harry, a young widow would thought top-notch and pick up instead of adventure and excitement in a guy like Rich. The entire cast is so ridiculously talented that you near to like every character in some scheme.

Married Life is a improbable film that will seduce you from its first scene to its last.

I bought this dvd from our local grocery store, which sold them out VERY fleet. The plunge epic about papa raising the largest pumpkin is very salubrious, has a astronomical legal lesson too. One of the main reasons this was purchased was for the Dreadful Dream epic on it, which is well loved in the book fabricate in this house. However, the fable is completely different on the DVD, and that was quite disappointing because the book is quite droll. Wish they hadn’t rewritten that one. Other than that, it’s been viewed over and over and over again in this house and hasn’t grown tired. Highly recommend!

I belief kids shouldn’t gape movies until they are five. Then I had twins! We limit movies to 1/2 hr a day and some days don’t notice any. That said the Berenstain Bears immediately appealed to all the family because the stories are sweet and simple, but deal with sincere world problems. There’s a focus on values and ethics, but it’s mild fun and cute for the kids. My girls (age three) never tire of seeing these stories over and over. They especially like the ones that are unprejudiced a small bit scary such as the “Green Eyed Monster” in which Sister Absorb has a repugnant dream about her envy.

While various MST3K episodes have circulated over the internet and from companies like Rhino, the MST3K movie has long since disappeared from DVD shelves. So what makes this different from any normal episode? Well, first of all it’s state between the sixth and seventh seasons (factual after the departure of TV’s Frank and before Pearl joins as a regular), so Doctor F has the terrible guy side all to himself. Fortunately, Tag is more than estimable of making his every moment on veil a blast (there’s even a droll “mini-origin” monologue that starts the film off to glean everyone up to urge) . The station is finally expanded here and we bag to witness more of the ship finally. But, strangely enough, this is actually SHORTER than any of the episodes you perceive on television. This was done because the studio was terrified people who weren’t familiar with the reveal would bag bored in the theater–but of course, why would they go scrutinize it if they weren’t familiar with the present in the first space?

The movie they determine to riff is “This Island Earth”, which I always view wasn’t such a terrible film anyway. However, Mike and the Bots do manage to squeeze in some astronomical lines throughout. Definitely worth the time!

One tiny warning: they do expend a few more luminous words here than they did on television. Not often by any means, but they sneak a couple in here and there.

I’m so ecstatic we’re finally seeing this gem return to DVD! Don’t know what brought it on, but thank you!

The approved TV reveal that revolves around a man and his two robots heckling rotten movies in dwelling has found its procedure on film (very hard to secure, but it’s there!) . “Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie” gives you the rare opportunity of enjoying a unpleasant movie as Mike and the robots are there to benefit you through it with their wisecracking and flawless delivery. It’s lawful that anyone can heckle a dreadful movie… but very few can do it as righteous as these guys can.

The inflamed and contaminated scientist, Dr. Clayton Forrester, has created an corrupt cramped arrangement that is walk to give him world domination… but first thing’s first. He plans to torment Mike Nelson and the robots by sending them a staunch stinker of a film to scrutinize called, “This Island Earth.” He is convinced that this movie will drive them insane. And since the guys cannot control when the movie begins or ends, they are forced to peep the lawful apprehension that is this dreadful movie that has a lobster creature dressed in slacks. Will this be the ultimate cheese that breaks the boys’ spirits? You’ll get out once you open this hilarious movie.

The movie isn’t all that different from the regular note, which is a major plus. Distinct, there is a microscopic bit of a state going on that concerns Dr. Forrester’s idea for global domination, but there’s always a side myth like that going on in each of the episodes. The movie may watch a cramped more professional than the expose, but that’s the only dissimilarity. We collected perceive the three silhouettes wisecrack and mock their blueprint through the unpleasant movie. Their delivery is always constant and true on target. In fact, you’re scramble to bag something unique that you didn’t glean the first time around when you search for it again. “This Island Earth” was a grand choice for the movie, although they have been through distinguished worse than this (look the episodes “State Mutiny” or “Manos: Hands of Fate,” and you’ll perceive what I’m saying) . The DVD has no extras whatsoever. Not only that, but it is EXTREMELY hard to bag these days, so well-behaved luck trying to glean it (it’s out there somewhere) .

“Mystery Science Theater 3000: The Movie” doesn’t disappoint in any plot. It’s always droll, always novel and always clever. Fans of the point to will most likely treasure the movie. It can even be enjoyed by those who are experiencing MST3K for the very first time. If you’re lucky enough to stumble upon this dinky gem, then I highly recommend checking it out. And remember kids, these guys are professionals; do NOT attempt this at home! -Michael Crane
