In “Dark Blue, Almost Black” (Strand Releasing), Jorge is a twenty-five year old janitor who is desperate to find a new and better job. Because he takes care of his father who is handicapped, his search for a new position is complicated. His brother, Antonio, is about to be released from incarceration. While in prisonm Antonio found a girlfriend who wants to have a child but we learn that Antonio unable to father one so he asks Jorge to get his girlfriend pregnant. Complicating this is the unexpected return of Natalia, Jorge’s girlfriend who left years ago. At the same time, Jorge’s best friend, Israel has been secretly photographing men who visit an erotic masseur and he learns something that throws him for a loop.
What a beautiful character study this film is. Our characters are trapped by circumstance and their own feelings of responsibility, thereby being unable to go after their dreams and goals. Jorge, trapped between two women, one his former girlfriend, the other his no-good brother’s prison girlfriend. He is the “nice guy”, too nice, in fact. Quim Guitterez gives a fine performance as Jorge and we take a good, hard look at his life. However, the movie moves along slowly and not much seems to happen. There is some really good emotional poignancy and some of the same sex scenes are exciting and the dialog between characters is very good. There are wise things to be learned by listening to the actors speak (or in his case, reading the subtitles).
When Jorge dreams of escaping his existence, he dreams of a suit which is dark blue, almost black. It represents freedom to him. His life is poor, he does not experience self-development. He feels incapable of a relationship with someone and even though the emotions are subtly portrayed, they are quite real. Daniel Sanchez Arevalo directed this film ala the style of Pedro Almodovar. Like the characters of Almodovar, out characters move through life by methods that are not so good even though the intentions are quite good.
The film is stark and grave with not much humor and is very serious. It may not brighten your mood, but “Dark Blue, Almost Black” will give you plenty to think about.
Don’t expect action, don’t expect any kind of fast pace plot. Expect a movie about life, and individual struggles mixed with a small bit of comic relief and you’ve got Azuloscurocasinegro (Dark Blue Almost Black). It’s a great movie and I use it to brush up on my Spanish. Although, it’s a little tough with the Spanish dialect and vosotros.

Quite frankly I was disappointed with this movie, but I did not peruse it in 3D so that might be allotment of my quandary.

Jaws 3 takes location at a water amusement park with under water glass tunnels,etc. In one shot you can search for section of the Orange County, Florida logo on an ambulance so, I would presume it was shot in Orlando, Florida.
Recommended for kids and Jaws completists.

I never understood why a DVD version of 3-D movies would be released without the 3-D. I mean, lets face it, this was always intended to be remarkable more of a gimmick movie then it was about the continuing adventures of the Brody clan.
I would bewitch this up in a puny if it was released as (maybe) a “midnight movie” with a pair of glasses and maybe a bag of popcorn or something. For a studio to roll this out there naked and quiz people to acquire it is objective crazy. The movie stinks; it’s simply not suited enough to stand up on its on merit. Fraction of the reason people went to the theaters to recognize this was to bag it in 3-D; to retract that away unprejudiced doesn’t do any sense. It was never meant to be without it.

If you are expecting a DVD that is a grand improvement on the video, this will disappoint. But if you absolutely esteem the film, the DVD is aloof worth getting. Now, the film itself shows what a terrific chemistry Doris Day and Frank Sinatra had together, and makes one wish they had done more films together, and certainly sang more duets. Doris is capable and Frank deserved an Oscar for his portayal of Barney Sloane, as hip and deep a job of acting as anything James Dean ever did and Dean had made his first film this same year (1954) . Sinatra was (and is) so underrated as an actor in the 1950’s. Someone keep it well, there is no Frank Sinatra in this film, only Barney Sloane.
This movie leaves you wanting more MORE of Day and Sinatra together – that is my only criticism of it! A extraordinary film.

This is an outstanding movie for many reasons. For cinema fans only familiar with the “rat pack”, this Frankie may be an behold opener. YOUNG AT HEART (1954) is a showcase for Frank Sinatra’s good acting. He is intense, focused & nuanced, becoming one with “Barney Sloan,” a gifted musician suffering through multiple “abominable breaks” since birth & sorely lacking confidence.
Doris Day also brings powerful to this classic with a very titillating performance. She is warm, sparkling & upbeat as the woman of Sinatra’s dreams, & so expressive in her eyes! The chemistry between these two actors grows with their characters’ relationship; they allotment a number of memorable scenes together. They are surrounded by a very qualified supporting cast, especially Gig Young & Ethel Barrymore.

This is a romantic drama with good singing. Doris & Frank’s duet together is “You, My Savor”, which is a personal well-liked. Ms. Day delivers several 50’s pop songs beautifully. Frank makes his impact here as the saloon singer, with intellectual, consuming renditions of “Someone to Behold Over Me,” “One for My Baby,” & “Honest One of Those Things.”
Initially, this film is light-hearted & glossy – until Barney Sloan arrives. There are multiple issues that his character brings to the surface such as: “destiny” & the strength of the human will, the afflict of loneliness, the power of hope, life-changing experiences, & recognizing “care for”.
It’s worth noting that the forty-eight year primitive YOUNG AT HEART was actually a re-make of a 1938 mega-hit “Four Daughters”, & carries over some of its location contrivances. . Don’t let this bog you down. This tiny gem rises above it.

In my notion, the DVD is a visual improvement over the fuzzy video. Having both the Video / 40th anniversary edition & now the DVD, I’ve watched each, sometimes scene by scene, to compare, both on the same television. This video has the same shrimp scratches, circles / spots that can be viewed on the DVD; ticket the gingerbread scene in the kitchen. The DVD’s Major Plus: visual details, such as skin & facial features, are improved: Doris’ cute freckles are back; thankfully, the character “Amy” no longer has a blackened tooth when she is tying Gig Young’ s tie (as seen in Video) ; and Frank’s face shows some scars in stop ups, a realistic touch for his character. Actually, the DVD’s visuals, preceeding the film, are quite blooming! The DVD is reasonably priced, although I would have been willing to pay a minute more for some extras, such as gradual the scenes photos… Now if the film preservationists could benefit restore the new negative of this classic movie, that would be amazing. YOUNG AT HEART deserves it — How about it, AMC? .

Though busy with his successful restaurant, John finds time to be a loving father, a husband who is as supportive of his wild wife as is possible, and who gradually finds in the unique Flor a gentle, unprejudiced, compassionate/passionate human being that seems to be a soul mate. I don’t particularly cherish Adam Sandler’s comedies. Fortunately, “Spanglish” is not one of them! It’s more of a James L. Brooks movie. Once again, he writes, directs and produces, as he did with the classic “Terms of Endearment” abet in 1983, and more recently, with “As Salubrious as It Gets”.
Sandler plays John Clasky, a eminent chef who is in the prime of his professional career. He’s the classic “superb guy”, who loves his family and keeps a grand balance between the time he devotes to work and the time with his kids. Plus he loves his paralyzed wife Deborah, played by Tea Leoni (Deep Impact, The Family Man), one wacky lady who has achieve her career on possess to raise her family.
Complementing the cast is Paz Vega, who broke into international stardom playing Lucia in “Sex and Lucia”. She plays Flor (with rolled “R” at the ruin), a protective Mexican mom who wants to discontinue as stop as possible to her native Mexican values, even while living in the heart of L.A., cleaning and cooking for the Clasky family.
While the dwelling does lead into some predictable events (don’t mean to spoil the tale for you), this is not your “typical” Adam Sandler movie. As a matter of fact, some of the most hilarious moments are not courtesy of the anecdote from “The Wedding Singer” and Saturday Night Live, but rather the result of the head-on encounter of two cultures, where no side can declare the other’s language or easily understand each other’s motivations.
With a balance between humor and drama that is preserved throughout most of the region, the movie stands a first-rate chance of being almost as celebrated as “My Broad Beefy Greek Wedding” was a attend in 2002.

When Admire Day returns to Mellstock to care for her father & grunt the local schoolchildren, she creates quite a stir: the townspeople don’t quite know what to earn of this educated girl & the parson’s plans to replace their beloved choir with her playing of the “harmonia” (organ) . Gorgeous soon the sweet & glowing Appreciate has attracted the spy of three men: a bad but resplendent carrier, a rich but crass farmer and a gentlemanly but grand parson. I was quite impressed by this film: I kept waiting for the gloomy, depressing side of Hardy to near out & almost couldn’t gain that the tone of the film seemed to be upbeat most of the time. Surprisingly, the film stayed on the happier side & ended quite nicely: I esteem Hardy’s other stories, but it is quite refreshing to recognize that he was not always doom & gloom, and could pen such a sweet & enchanting story as this!! Highly recommended!

First, we have Dick Dewy, the horrified and blooming carrier (predecessor to keen van company) who is quite bad. Then there is Frederic (Farmer) Shiner the wealthiest man in Mellstock (and Fancy’s father’s choice) . Last, we have Mr. Maybold, the arrogant town parson who feels very top-notch to his parishioners.
Music also ‘plays’ an critical section in this lighthearted microscopic chronicle. The church choir is constantly playing their instruments or singing. They welcome Miss Day to the community by serenading her under her window. They are also replaced–much to everyone’s consternation, by Pastor Maybold’s novel harmonium (at the Church) . There are many parties and dances that consume this itsy-bitsy orchestra. Even at the extinguish of the film, these musicians again serenade Fanny in an act of contrition. She has become very despondent about her future in this small village and when the band plays, she realizes that she truly loves where she lives. In fact, upon being proposed to by Mr. Maybold, she retorts, (when told how well-behaved she is to the villagers) “As for me, I’m……I’m a woman of Mellstock.”
We can roar what season it is by looking at the leaves on the Greenwood Tree in the minute village. It takes a year for the leading characters in this tale to develop major transformations in their thoughts and actions: Dick Dewy becomes ambitious to get the affections of Cherish. Care For and her father also change……………farmer Shiner will be overjoyed to change in order to derive Fancy’s affections!
I absolutely adored this runt film (as I do Thomas Hardy) . Compared to Hardy’s other works, this is a powerful lighter fare. It tranquil has the engrossing heroine and the tall romance but we don’t have to go through any of the ample sadness and torment that we collect in his deeper novels. Hardy, who grew up in a town like Mellstock, took the title from a poem by Shakespeare’s, AS YOU LIKE IT:
Under the greenwood tree,
Who loves to lie with me,
And turn his merry note
Unto the sweet bird’s throat,
Come hither, arrive hither, advance hither;
Here shall he see
No enemy
But winter and rough weather.

I am SOOO Gratified this is finally being released on DVD (my VHS copy has been watched so many times, it’s not that fine anymore!) .
This is a tall yarn about TWO sets of twins that are born in this rinky dink hospital in Jupiter Hollow, only to have one twin from each location mixed with the other. It’s a hilarious romp and definitely a feel satisfactory movie. I reflect far too many critics these days miss that point. If a movie makes you feel valid and makes you want to behold it over and over again, that’s a 5 star movie.

One site of twins (Lily Tomlin) born to West Virginians gets separated with other state of twins (Bette Midler) born to NYC snobs. Yes, no one noticed the sure hair color differences but it really doesn’t matter. Both Tomlin and Midler go relentless getting laughs and it does work sizable. Especially the displaced country Bette Midler (who was supposed to grow up rich) and the country Lily Tomlin (who is where she is supposed to be) . So many lines that you’ll get yourself repeating them and the ending is such a mammoth peek gag. Hopefully this will be available again and on DVD at that? Oh my god, it’s me with a dreadful haircut.
